the mass email
Have you ever been so far behind on communicating you do not even know where to begin. I feel like a novelist staring at a blank page, but with far less interesting stories to tell. Yet, this is no way to treat friends.

So, here is an update.

Mowdou and I are staying in Mauritania for awhile. We have sent in the VISA application, but we haven't hear anything. I have taken a job as a teaching assistant/ substitute teacher for an english speaking school. At first I was disappointed to take such a detour from my career path, but honestly, I am learning a lot about management of people and learning styles.

We are hoping to return to America in June. When the school year ends, but a lot relies on the VISA process. Luck-ly, my parents are helping us out, an unexpected surprise, so I have hope.

The mass email is soon to follow...perhaps I will even write some of my friend that I think about on a regular basis.

Ugghh....I am terrible.

Even though your parents were (and may still be) negative about Mowdou, they do love you and want you to succeed at whatever you care strongly about. Don't forget this. :)

I often see some family member I haven't seen in a few years and am stuck trying to say something. I usually end up being very terse, which doesn't make either party happy, but it's the best I can do. Just focus on the very best moments of your past few years and the mass mail will be manageable.

I was worried you were going to have trouble with his VISA without their help. I wish I could help you but this is one area where I no longer have influence. Keep at it and have your babies in the US, should you decide to have any. That's my advice.

I know mass emails are hard--that's why I usually don't do them, and just drop off the face of the earth for months or years at a time. Maybe a better idea would be to just post updates on 1 thing at a time over the next few weeks, and we'll get the picture of how you're doing in small pieces. Less stress for you, more news for us!

Hope you're doing well; perhaps I'll take my own advice and fill you in on our lives here soon...

-Nathan
