movies?!?!
So, yesterday I talked to my parents on the phone and my dad said, “Are you having problems accessing your blog?”

The sad answer is no. I am retarded. I can access it, but I am so far behind. I have new site mates to talk about, a bucket of comments about my trip to Morocco, a new house in Kiffa with a few problems to share and my internal monolog surrounding Ramadan.

This blog will have nothing to do with these things. Mostly, because I need to prepare for going to the US in a month, so to help me with that, here is what I need from you.
A list of good movies from 2006 and 2007!

I need you to remember that I have been out of the country for over a year, thus I had to have missed more than a few movies/TV series. So, let me know what I should try to see in the theater and what I should definitely rent/buy before leaving the states again.

I hear that Blockbuster has a 1 month rental deal. It is like as many movies as you want for a month. That might be a good idea for me.

'Little Miss Sunshine' is one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time. 'Thank You For Smoking' was really good. For pure funny factor, 'Over the Hedge' is probably the best animated movie I've seen this year, it *just* came out on video. The second 'Pirates of the Carribean' movie is well worth the watch, it's long, but if you liked the first, you'll enjoy this one. From everything I've heard 'Man of the Year' is going to kick ass, it's got Robin Williams, it might be in $1.50 theaters when you get back (it comes out this week, I don't know when you're getting here). That's all I can come up w/ off the top of my head.

The best recent movies I've seen:
Primer -- time-travel in suburbia. Excellent sci-fi, overall.
The Illusionist -- In the late 1800's, Ed Norton is a stage magician in love with the probable fiancee of the heir to the german empire. She dies mysteriously. Paul Giamatti investigates. Excellent mystery/speculative fiction/fantasy-romance. The best role I've seen Giamatti in.
Lucky Number Slevin -- Slevin is a random guy. He accidentally gets between warring mobsters and has to do jobs for both of them. Best new crime-drama I've seen since Usual Suspects. Best movie overall from the past couple of years.

Serenity is a must-see if you haven't already.
The Chronicles of Narnia was a well-done spectacle, especially if you enjoyed the books.
Cars and Over the Hedge are obvious blockbuster movies to see. Both were fun, if a tad predictable, but worth seeing. X3 wasn't great, but if you enjoyed the first 2 X-men movies, you should probably go ahead and finish off the series.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Devil Weears Prada are light and fun, if you don't want to think too hard.
Skip the DaVinci code if you value your brain or your time--it's painfully boring and illogical.

I hope that gives you some movies to work with. Enjoy your time!

The Departed - Hella-cool, I even enjoyed Leonardo DiCaprio in a role, it was that good (and Jack Nicholson is just cool regardless).

Scoop - An entertaining Woody Allen movie, not terrific, but a fun Woody Allen comedy.

The only other movies I remember seeing are "A Scanner Darkly" which was blah, "X-Men 3" (duh), and "The Sentinel" which I enjoyed but only because I watch 24 religiously (Kiefer Sutherland... *drool*).

Enjoy your month of movie madness. :)

Avoid 'Cars' and 'Over the Hedge' like the plague. Total suckage.

'Brick' is the best movie of 2006. 'Thank You for Smoking' is funny. 'Primer' was damn good, but it was out while you were here. Look, I work nights at a video store and own a couple of the movies listed above, so it is all good. I even have comfy chairs.
